William Robert “Bobby” Druen, born January 12, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky, was the son of Aaron and Frances Puckett Druen. He was raised in the Pikeview community of Hart County and, after the death of his mother when he was six, lived near Jonesville with his father, two siblings and paternal grandparents.
A graduate of Hart Memorial High School, he earned degrees in geography, history and government from Western Kentucky University. While there, he met Patricia Gilley on a blind date. They married on August 16, 1970. For nearly 55 years, they had never spent one day without each other.
Bobby began his career teaching at Meade County High School before relocating to Wisdom, Kentucky in 1976. He taught social studies at Edmonton Elementary and later became the inaugural principal of Metcalfe County Middle School, serving until his retirement in 1997.
Post-retirement, he pursued his passion for agriculture, managing a cattle operation. He served on the boards of both the local and state Cattlemen’s Association, as well as the Metcalfe County Soil and Conservation Board.
Bobby taught as an adjunct professor of geography at Western Kentucky University and remained active in church life—first at Pikeview Baptist, later New Liberty Missionary Baptist, and for the past 25 years at Glasgow Cumberland Presbyterian, where he served as an usher.
He died on August 6, 2025, and was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Michael Druen. He is survived by his wife Patricia, son Tommy, daughter-in-law Erin, grandchildren Asher and Julia, siblings Gil (Georgia), Sibyl (Ernest), three nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.
