Vander Hovy Huffman, 86 of Hardyville, KY passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at TJ Samson Hospital. He was born March 8, 1939, to the late Ernest and Violet Atwell Huffman. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Lee Trebu Huffman.
Vander was a dedicated farmer and self-employed at the Huffman shop, specializing in tractors and small engines. He took pride in his work and was especially proud of the John Deere 330 tractor he restored for Veachel Lile. In addition to his work, Vander made significant contributions to his community through public service. He served as Chief of the North Metcalfe Volunteer Fire Department for eight years, a role that exemplified his willingness to help others in times of need. Even after stepping down from this leadership position, he remained actively involved as a member of the board of directors, continuing to make a positive impact in the lives of his fellow community members. Vander's connection to his community extended beyond his work in public service. He was a member of the Hiseville Masonic Lodge #320 for an impressive 57 years. Vander will be remembered not only for his contributions as a farmer and public servant but also for the profound impact he had on countless individuals throughout his life. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
June Huffman, 83 of Hardyville, KY passed away Wednesday, January 14,2026, at her residence. She was born June 1, 1942, to the late Rev. H.T. and Grace Vance Brooks.
Known affectionately as the "Book Mobile Lady," June dedicated 38 years of her life to the Metcalfe County Public Library, where she made a lasting impact on countless individuals through her passion for reading and her commitment to public service. In addition to her influential career in literature, June was actively involved in catering events for Chamber Banquets and Barnlot Theater showcasing her talents and creativity. June is fondly remembered for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Her contributions to both the library and the fire department have left an indelible mark on the lives she touched. As we remember her, we celebrate a life filled with love, service, and a deep sense of community involvement.
Vander and June married June 10,1960 in Shady Grove, KY spending a remarkable 65 years together. They together remained significant figures in the community, participating in meetings and events that demonstrated their devotion to their neighbors and friends. Vander and June were members of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. They played an instrumental role in the organization and establishment of the North Metcalfe Volunteer Fire Department, dedicating over 40 years to this vital service. Their commitment to their community and each other stands as a testament to their character and lasting legacy.
They are survived by their daughter Cathy Holley, two grandchildren Kyle (Katie) Holley and Megan Harper, and three great grandchildren Kennedy Holley, Liam Harper and Kowen Holley.
Funeral services for Vander and June Huffman will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, January 19, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Asbury-Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Sunday and after 8:00 AM Monday until time of the service here at the funeral home.
