Susan Sandidge Shirley Chambers, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, teacher, and friend, passed away surrounded by love.

Born and raised in Edmonton, Kentucky, Susan was the daughter of Ruth and Jack Shirley and sister to Morris Lane and Bob Shirley. She was the devoted wife of Harold Chambers and the proud mother of Shane Chambers, Emily (Chambers) Coffey and Cayce (Chambers) Cole.

Susan’s life was rich with creativity, curiosity, and generosity. A gifted actress, painter, pianist, and paper doll maker, she also had a lifelong love of books and was an avid reader. She was, by her own admission, a mediocre cook-but more than made up for it with her warmth, wit, and talent.

A beloved radio personality and teacher, Susan had a gift for making others feel seen, understood, and-often-joyfully amused. In the classroom, on stage, behind a microphone, or in conversation, she shared her humor, her kindness, and her many talents. Her life touched countless people, leaving behind memories as vibrant as her spirit.

As it was said in Shakespeare’s Sonnet 30:

“But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,

All losses are restored, and sorrows end.”

When you think of Susan, may your sorrows end, and may you remember her laughter-a sound that could fill a room and lift a heart. She would have wanted it that way.

The family has chosen to have a private graveside service. A celebration of life for Susan will be held 6:00 PM Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at the Edmonton Methodist Church.

Butler Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted to the care Mrs. Chambers.
