Mary Magdeline (Bitner) Shive of Edmonton went home to be with her God and Lord on November 27, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ota (Shope) Bitner of Kempton, Indiana.
She was married to Earl Owens Shive on August 4, 1949, from Summer Shade, Kentucky, who preceded her in death on October 6, 1980. Into this union were seven children who survive; Steve (Camilla) Shive of Cave Ridge; Mike (Lanetta) Shive of Knob Lick; Jerry (Vicki) Shive of Glasgow; Jack (Teresa) Shive and Sandy Shive England (the late Malcolm England), both of Edmonton; John (Judy) Shive of Jeffersonville, Indiana and Stacie (Caryn) Shive of Chesterfield, Virginia.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Chad (Mary) Shive, Tonya (Brian) Augustine, Todd Shive, Corey (Kacey) Shive, Kara (John Ray) Ford, Ryan (Mary) Shive, Kristen Shive, Icy (Dean) Trent, Megan England, Lauran (Stephen) Dover and Evan (Rachel) Shive. She is also survived by 15 Great- grandchildren and one sister, Melba Stahl of Indiana. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Justin Shive, a son-in-law, Malcolm England, one sister and five brothers.
Mary, Mother Mary, Mom, Mammaw, Grandma, the list can go on to show how much she was loved and cherished. No matter what anyone called her, you knew she would always be there with her love lending whatever helping hand was needed. None of us could have asked for a better Mother, Mother-in-law, grandmother or friend. Mary was not only dedicated to her family, but also to her community as shown by the many years served as Circuit Court Clerk from October 1980- December 2006. She was also an active member of the Edmonton Homemaker club until her failing health, a former member of Edmonton/ Metcalfe Chamber of Commerce and Eastern Star. Mary was also strong in faith, cherishing the time she spent at Mt. Moriah Church in Summer Shade, worshipping her Lord and Savior. Mary was so loved by many and will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to the Metcalfe County Public Library.
The funeral service for Mary will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, November 30th at Butler Funeral Home with burial in the Summer Shade Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 29th 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Thursday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
