Margaret Thompson Cowan

Margaret Thompson Cowan, 88 of Edmonton, Ky passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at TJ Samson Hospital. Margaret was born August 30, 1936, to the late John and Nell Thompson. Besides her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband George Cowan and grandson Caleb Cowan. 

After graduating from Western Kentucky University in 1958, Margaret devoted 29 years of her life to shaping the minds of countless students at Metcalfe County High School. Her passion for teaching was evident, and she approached her role with an enthusiasm that inspired both her students and colleagues. Margaret had an incredible ability to connect with those she taught, leaving an indelible mark on their lives. Her nurturing spirit and dedication to education exemplified her belief in the potential of every child.

Beyond her impactful career, Margaret was deeply devoted to her family. She cherished the relationships she had with her loved ones and took great joy in being a source of support and encouragement to those around her. Her warmth and kindness will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Margaret was also a member of Willow Shade Church of Christ. 

She is survived by her son John Robert Cowan (Ana) of Lexington, two daughters Karan O'Sullivan (Tom) of Edmonton and Laura Nell Lawless (Jay) of Bowling Green, eight grandchildren Jake Cowan, Luke Cowan, Seth Cowan, Rob Lawless, Drew Lawless, Jack Lawless, John Linkous and Laura Linkous, one brother Johnny Thompson (Patti) of Edmonton. 

Funeral services for Margaret Cowan will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Butler Funeral Home with burial in the Edmonton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday and after 8:00 AM Sunday at the funeral home.
