James "Buddy" Howard Gibson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Edmonton, Kentucky, on July 2, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on October 22, 1951, in Glasgow, Kentucky, Buddy spent his life surrounded by family and friends, dedicating himself to his loved ones, his work, and his country. Buddy was a faithful member of Society Hill Missionary Baptist Church.
Buddy was a proud veteran, having faithfully served the United States in the Army from 1970 to 1973. A Vietnam Veteran, he was always honored to have worn the uniform of his country, and took great pride in the discipline, resilience, and sense of duty reflected throughout his life and actions.
Following his military service, Buddy built his career at RR Donnelley in Glasgow, Kentucky. For 36 years, he was a dedicated and valued employee, forging lifelong friendships until his retirement. After retiring, Buddy embraced the peace and satisfaction of life on his farm, which became a cherished retreat where family and the beauty of nature surrounded him each day.
Buddy was known for his love of the outdoors. Fishing was his favorite pastime, and he delighted in spending countless hours by the water, casting a line and enjoying the tranquility that came with it. When not fishing, he could often be found riding his side-by-side across his land and tending to his cows, a simple joy that brought him much happiness. He also loved camping and found comfort in quiet evenings spent around a campfire. Above all else, Buddy treasured the time he spent with his family and friends, building treasured memories filled with laughter, warmth, and affection.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Stacey Slinker (Timmy). His legacy carries on through his grandchildren, Ava Vibbert (Jacob) and Amelia Slinker, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jace Vibbert and Adelynn Vibbert. Buddy was a beloved brother to Frank Gibson (Lola) and Tim Gibson (Pam), and is fondly remembered by his sisters-in-law Sue Dickson (Howard) and Wanda Jessie (Roger), and brothers-in-law, Lonnie Caffee (Dana) and Tommy Hurt. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other devoted family members, alongside a bonus daughter, Jane Slinker, and dear friends Joan Baker and Mickey Cundari, all of whom will miss him dearly.
Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Shorty Gibson and Delphia Bunch Gibson, his wife, Elizabeth "Ann" Caffee Gibson, and his son, Jason Gibson. Their memory, together with Buddy’s, remains a guiding light for the family.
