Dempsey D. Perkins, 79, born in Metcalfe County passed away Monday, February 2, 2026, at Countryside Meadows in Avon, IN just shy of his 80th birthday.
Dempsey served as a Jeep driver in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later moved to Columbus Indiana with his wife Gail to work for Cummins Engine Company, where he worked as a CNC Machinist and Foreman for 38 years before retiring. He and his wife Gail later moved to Avon, IN to be closer to family.
Dempsey was an avid newspaper reader and enjoyed watching sports, closely following the Kentucky Wildcats and had recently enjoyed watching the IU Hoosiers win the National Football Championship.
Dempsey was preceded in death by his parents Rollin H. Perkins and Mary E. (Jeffries) Perkins and his sister Judy D. (Roger) Simmons.
Dempsey is survived by his wife of 56 years, Gail (Hoggard) of Avon, IN; his daughter Tracy Perkins-Pearcy (Allen) and his granddaughter Grace Pearcy of Indianapolis, IN; and his brother Charles (Judy) Perkins and niece Freda Perkins, of Edmonton, KY.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00PM Sunday, February 8, 2026, at Butler Funeral Home, 201 East Street, Edmonton, KY with burial in the Pink Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 9:00AM until time of the service here at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local animal shelter.
